Artful Embroidery: Building Your Brand One Stitch At A Time.

Embroidery will help you build your brand. Whether you are a sports team, business, institution, or non-profit organization, customizing your sports apparel with embroidery not only creates a sense of synergy among team members and associates, but it serves as a way to brand your organization in a creative way for the world to see. This is why it's so important for companies like Boathouse to provide quality embroidery that's cost-effective, fast, and controlled.

Here's what you need to know about the steps we take to ensure the highest quality application of your brand on our elite performance outerwear and custom sports uniforms.

Submit Your Art

The first step in the embroidery process at Boathouse is to receive your artwork. Don’t worry – we don’t expect you to be a graphic designer….you can submit your logo to us as polished vector artwork, a sketch on a napkin, or even just an idea. Our talented in-house creative team  will work with you to bring your design to life. the only requirement we have is that the artwork needs to be “viewable” (that's not asking too much is it?).

Sized To Spec

One we have your artwork its time to resize to Boathouse specs because each product has a different imprint area with different size constraints. This can vary from product to product.

Digitizing the Design

After artwork is received and scaled to spec, Lorraine in Creative Services will digitize the image in design software, where the original art is converted to stitches &  polished  to be stitch-able with the various fabric textures we offer. It is at this stage that Lorraine adds nodes* which read as individual stitches in the software & map-out the thread colors for efficient production runtime. It is here that we specify and choose from the 30+ in-stock thread colors (we also offer custom thread colors in metallic and Pantone matches)

*A node is a designer’s best friend in many programs. Many embroidery software programs also use nodes to create and define aspects of a shape.

Not All Embroidery Is Created Equal

Once digitized, Lorraine creates a sample “Stitch-out” for review and approval. It can sometimes take a few stitch-outs to get the desired look and quality because the thread count and amount of stitching can vary which can give the stitch-out a completely different look and feel, and effect legibility.

The Stitcher Machine

Once Lorraine and the in-house team are satisfied with the quality of the stitch-out, it is sent to customer for final approval. With approval by customer, it is delivered to our embroidery machines via USB drive and the full run of your team’s custom embroidery is produced on the garment’s panel using embroidery hoops* before all panels are sewn together for your custom outerwear order.

*An embroidery hoop is a pair of concentric circular or elliptical rings. The larger ring has a tightening device, usually in the form of a metal screw. The artisan repositions the hoop as needed when working over a large piece of fabric.

The Boathouse Quality Guarantee

Our superior quality allows our custom products to withstand the most rigorous use. If you should experience any problem with the quality of our workmanship on embroidery or garment itself, we will gladly replace your custom product. Who else would do that?
